Infamy! Infamy! They've All Got It In For Me! Beginning with the feel-good conscription caper Carry On Sergeant (1958) and finishing up with the much-maligned sex farce Carry On Emmannuelle (1978), producer Peter Rogers and director Gerald Thomas tossed off a record-breaking thirty films, all with that unique 'naughty but nice' seaside postcard-style humour. A team of spot-on comedy performers, headed by Kenneth Williams, Sid James, Charles Hawtrey, Hattie Jacques and Kenneth Connor, provided the great unwashed public with brain-achingly corny gags, ridiculous slapstick antics and seminal scenes of mayhem and speeded-up chicanery that would have brought a smile to the most jaded of palates. The Carry On comedy partnership of Rogers and Thomas (later combined with the wit of scriptwriter Talbot Rothwell) was responsible for many a classic production. From historicals such as Carry On Cleo (1964) and Carry On...Up The Khyber (1968) - the latter quite possibly the funniest film ever made in Wales - to such contemporary rib-ticklers as Carry On Doctor (1967) and - possibly the most famous entry of all, thanks to Barbara Windsor's elasticised brassiere - the seminal Carry On Camping (1968). The series may have ended in the gutter with Carry On Behind (1975) and Carry On England (1976), but such was the sheer talent on display throughout those twenty years, we can forgive them this small failing. Any genre was up for ridicule - bored with Lawrence Of Arabia (1962)? Try Carry On...Follow That Camel (1967). Fed up with Hammer horror? Turn off the light and shudder at the spine-chilling Carry On Screaming! (1966). Everyone has a personal favourite Carry On film - look up yours in this concise introduction to the whole, extraordinary phenomenon. What's in it? Every film examined in detail, with full cast and crew listing, key scenes and dialogue gems, and an informed critique; brief biographies of the major players, TV shows and theatre plays; appendices that include an exhaustive bibliography and an overview of the best Carry On websites around; all rounded off with a fiendish quiz on all things Carry On.

The fourteen pieces herein are those sundry writings I have created sandwiched between some forty years of writing novels, penning assessment reports, editing the works of other authors, and trying in general to live as fully and as wisely as possible. Carry On is a collection of fourteen pieces of miscellaneous writings I have created over some forty years. All the works are fanciful, some more than others, and all were written with an eye toward helping me put the world into an understandable perspective. One of my favorite authors is Nobel Laureate Orham Pamuk. When asked once why he writes, he said it is because he needs to construct alternate worlds in order to understand this one. It is the same for me, even though at times it also seems like an affliction, particularly when I am lost in the labyrinth of a novel, wherein understanding comes only after much ado, time, and butting my head against walls have passed in a twilight realm of obfuscation and bewilderment. Be that as it may, it is my sincere hope that these short works of fiction and epistemological conjecture will entertain and perhaps encourage new perspectives in those who read them.

Come for the make-outs and stay for the magic - The Atlantic Simon Snow just wants to relax and savour his last year at the Watford School of Magicks, but no one will let him. His girlfriend broke up with him, his best friend is a pest and his mentor keeps trying to hide him away in the mountains where maybe he'll be safe. Simon can't even enjoy the fact that his room-mate and longtime nemesis is missing, because he can't stop worrying about the evil git. Plus there are ghosts. And vampires. And actual evil things trying to shut Simon down. When you're the most powerful magician the world has ever known, you never get to relax and savour anything. Based on the characters Simon and Baz who featured in Rainbow Rowell's bestselling Fangirl, Carry On is a ghost story, a love story, a mystery and a melodrama. It has just as much kissing and talking as you'd expect from a Rainbow Rowell story - but far, far more monsters.

Can two war wounded learn how to carry on after life-changing injuries? No one has told Roland anything useful since he awoke in the Temple of Healing following the battle of Ypres. Muzzy-headed from the potions he's forced to take and with no word from his family or friends, he is entirely alone. He’s only allowed out of his room for command performances, talking about his experience of the War to people who refuse to listen to reality. When Elen is assigned as his new nurse, Roland assumes she will be gone in a week or two like all the others. She’s still there in a month, stubbornly insisting on doing everything she can to help him recover. Elen has been sent back from the front after a head injury. She used to know the Temple of Healing well, back during her apprenticeship. Now, nothing works like it used to and she can’t figure out what to do about the fact Roland’s healer is entirely absent from his care. Except, that is, for baffling directives that are not at all in her patient’s best interest. Together, they must confront Elen’s fear of questioning authority and find out why Roland has been isolated from everyone he knows. Carry On takes place in the spring of 1915, during the Great War in Albion, the magical community of England, Wales, and Scotland. First in the Mysterious Power series, it has a happily-ever-after ending full of knitting, compassion, and romance.
