"This biometrical study provides the researchers, interested in fetal growth, with a simple and practical tool made of a large set of normative curves. Sixteen measurements are studied, from two distinct samples: 490 normal fetuses and stillborn neonates, measured at autopsy, and 4507 ultrasound examinations of normal fetuses. Such large sample sizes make these standard curves reliable. Classical statistical curves, such as the scattergram with a nonparametric adjustment of the data, and the percentiles curve, are given for each measurement. In addition, a new approach to fetal growth is proposed with the study of growth velocities and relationships between some measurements. This approach to modifications in normal fetal growth rhythm is particularly useful when applied to intrauterine growth disorders."--BOOK JACKET.Title Summary field provided by Blackwell North America, Inc. "...a 'must-have' reference text for any researcher interested in the biocultural determinants of human fertility and is appropriate as a textbook at the graduate level. I expect it to remain a standard in the literature of demographic anthropology and reproductive ecology for many years to come." --American Journal of Physical Anthropology
